MISSIONOur mission is to see people who are far from God come to new life in Christ and see them become true disciples of Him. We want to see this happen at Aletheia through mobilizing a generation, locally creating a biblical community, and globally changing our world. Our goals and purposes revolve around the Great Commandment and Great Commission passages of the New Testament: Matthew 22:36-40 and Matthew 28:18-20.
HISTORYAletheia Norfolk finds its roots in the passions and dreams of Dave and Aaron Proffitt. In 2001, the Proffitts began a church at JMU in Harrisonburg, VA to reach a generation with the message of Christ. God blessed their efforts tremendously and the vision continued with Aletheia Richmond in 2006. Under Dave's leadership, a small group of recent college graduates began reaching out to the campus of VCU. In 2007, Dave handed the reigns over to Josh Soto as Aletheia Richmond began to meet on Sunday nights. In July of 2008, Jamie and Jessica Limato came to Norfolk to see the same things take place in the city of Norfolk and the campus of Old Dominion. The Aletheia network has blossomed into a nationwide college church-planting movement with awesome momentum behind it. The Aletheia ODU campus organization has been started to better reach the students of Old Dominion. Aletheia Norfolk is growing into a new, relevant community that is here to see people who are far from God come to new life in Christ and become true disciples of Him. We want to do this by encountering God in deep and powerful ways, serving one another, and reaching out with the message of Christ. BELIEFS Ephesians 4:4-6
THE LOGO The Aletheia 3-Blocks logo has numerous meanings. It is first and foremost intended to communicate a feeling of solidarity. The structural essence of the blocks reflects the strength of Jesus Christ as the cornerstone of the Christian's life, and reinforces its most critical understanding: that He alone is our strength. In that there are three parts, it also reflects several key aspects of Christian doctrine: the Trinitarian unity of God, the three nails of Christ's crucifixion, and the three days comprising His death and resurrection. It carries further symbolism in that the three shapes act as the inside of the letters 'A' and 'C', the initials of Aletheia Church. Furthermore, every letter of the word "Aletheia" can be seen abstractly somewhere in the logo. It also beckons the eye to move upward, signifying the transcendent nature of our hope in Christ. Its angular and acsending qualities can also reflect the modern architecture of cities in which Aletheia intends to do ministry. All of these elements combine to reflect what Aletheia's ministry exists to do: demonstrate the power of God to change lives in a way that is both culturally relevant and biblically orthodox.
